Two things

First up, Donncha has some advice for those of you writing plugins. He makes a very timely point here:

As a user of Free Software, you already know that “Free” doesn’t mean “Free as in beer”, it’s “Free as in speech”. If you know anything about software development help plugin authors by looking over their shoulders and checking their code. There is a cost to everything. In Free Software that cost is helping to test or fix bugs in the software you value and enjoy.

And remember kids, you get what you pay for. ;)

Next up, my buddy Phil shares how to customize the blog error message pages. Very slick, nicely integrated, and better yet – Phil submitted a ticket to try and get it rolled into the core.

  1. What is the thing with WordPress and beer? Have to wonder about that.

I added in a vote for also including the graceful_fail function to that list. Hope you don’t mind. Can’t remember if it’s in the area or not but we do something on our installs with it that’s similar to this code.

  2. Hehe, Mike, it’s Free Software in general and beer. It’s a famous quote from Richard Stallman or someone at the FSF I think.

You also have this plugin. http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=8303
