Customizing the dashboard

So, you have WordPress MU all set up and running and you’re in the final tweaking stage. You suddenly realize that maybe the default dashboard is going to confuse the heck out of your users – what to do?

Well, you could block their access to the dashboard and redirect them somewhere else, like their profile or the write post page. Or, you could use the dashboard for what it was intended to do – communicate with your users!

It’s way easy now – just grab this plugin Simple Dashboard to take away those dashboard widgets you don’t want. Also includes the ability to override the feeds for the primary and secondary feed, and turn on or off the ability for users to customize those 2 feeds. Add the feed to your main blog (which I use for news) and there you go.

Need to customize it a bit? On the premium side is a Custom Content Dashboard widget. Just give it an edit to include the information you like.

I’d like to send out a HT to Tim Grahl who was the second person to ask me this in less than a week, thus giving me the idea to just post it already. :D His fantabulous WPMU site is blogs for Etsy shop owners and such a fabulous idea.
