When not to use multisite

I swear I’ve written a post similar to this, but maybe it was all the advice I’ve passed along in the forums over the past few years. At any rate: Don’t use multisite , or great advice to when you should not use multisite for a project. Just in case you need to decide.

Customizing multisite dashboards

While I try and figure out where my words went, and if there’s anything new left to write about multisite that I haven’t already, I’d like to highlight this post from Helen, on customizing the special multisite dashboards. A small thing that can bring great usability to your site if you have more than a [...]

How to enable multiple sites – the ebook

Just over a week ago I released a free ebook called How to enable multisite in WordPress, for those new to the Network feature and wondering how to turn it on. If you are one of the new users wonder where the wpmu merge shows up in WordPress, this would be it. You can download [...]

I went to WordCamp Chicago and all you get is this lousy blog post

I forgot to post about Ron & I going to WordCamp Chicago this past weekend, darn it. He’s already posted about his session. The session I spoke about was Domain Mapping on WordPress 3.0 and you can find the slides over here. I have no idea if anyone recorded it, but I was assured by [...]

Helpful Books

As extensive as this blog is, it’s not near as much fun to curl up with on the couch. Sometimes a book in hand, or close by on the desk, can be exactly what you need. There’s also a basic level of WordPress nowledge that this blog assumes one already has. This week, the WordPress [...]

WPMU Default User Role

Deanna & Kevin released the WPMU Default User Role plugin earlier this week. In WordPress MU, new users are added to the site’s dashboard blog if the site admin has created one. Otherwise the user is added to the main blog in the WPMU site. With the default user role plugin, you can specify additional [...]

More video from WordCamp New York

The internet Society (New York Chapter) is archiving what it can find about WCNYC over here. Scroll down to Sunday, and there’s video & audio of my unconference session, which I think went much better, way meatier than the previous day’s presentation. I really like the unconferencing part – much more give & take between [...]

Free BuddyPress themes

If you have explored BuddyPress at all, you will have noticed not only the lack of free themes available, but also the trouble in just finding them. We aim to change that with the Free BuddyPress Themes site. Not only will it feature whatever free BuddyPress themes we can find anywhere online, we will be [...]

Facebook Dashboard Widget Update

A quick note that Chris has released a new version of his Facebook Dashboard Widget (Download link) that is compatible with WPMU.

Our slides from WordCamp New York

This past weekend we were in New York city for WordCamp NYC. What a blast! Everyone we met was so awesome, and I gave out a ton of hugs. There was such a great spirit during the whole weekend, full of learning & sharing. Here’s the slides from our presentations. Our sessions were also filmed, [...]
